Pithapuram is an ancient & holy Punya Kshetram. It is the 10th Shakti Peetham among the Aastadasa peetha’s(18). As the seat place(Peetha) of Satidevi has fallen on this , it is called Pithapuram.

PADAGAYA KSHETRAM

padagaya is one of the sacred of hindus. Sri Kukkuteswara Swamy form of Lord Siva, is presiding deity who reveals himself in the form of Linga. This place is known as Padagaya because lord Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara (Trimurthulu) killed Gayasura and his legs reached Pithapuram. The place where his legs rested was a pond where after this pond came be known as Padagaya. If we visit this place even one time then we get mukthikara (means our ancesters get mukthi), Sarvapapahara, Saravabhista siddiprada and saravadhukhahara.
Here Lord Shiva is in the form of Swayambhu Linga. The linga resemble that of a cock. Hence Lord shiva is called Sri Kukkuteswara Swamy. The Pithapuram pilgrimage is 10th Shakthi peeta in Astadasa Sakthi Peetas.  Readmore

SRI PURUHHUTHIKA AMMAVARU

Pithapuram which has earlier known as Pithikapuram. It is the 10th Sakthi Peeta in Asthasdhasa(Eighteen) Shakthi Peetas. Here Sathi Devi was disgraced and left her life near Yaaga. After destricution of Dhaksha Yajna Lord Shiva took the dead body of sathi devi on his sholders and was wandering in the world. Lord Vishnu divided the body Sathi Devi into 18 pieces with his Sudharsana chakram. As the seat place (peetha) of sathidevi has fallen on this, It is called Pithapuram. Puruhooothudu (Indra ) offered pujas to sathidevi here. so she is calld Sri Puruhuthika Devi
Sri Puruhuthika has golden bowl in her lower left hand, Madhiphala fruit in lower right hand, drum in left hand , and metal rod in right hand. she is placed on Srichakra Peetha and fulfill all desires and gives health to the devotees. It was said by Srinada Kavisarvabhowma in Bheemakanda Sloka.

SWAYAMBHU SRI DHATTATREYA SWAMY VARU

There were Brahmin Couple in 13th century. They are Sumathi and Raja Sharma. They had two children but they are physically challenged .For better and healthy child they worshipped Lord Dhattatreya who is in padagaya Kshetra as swamybhu. One day annual ceremony of his father came. sumathi was preparing everything for that ceremony. To test them Dattatreya came in the guise of sage for Bhiksha. At that time Rajasharma was not in the house, Sumathi gave bhiksha to the sage without thinking break of ceremony. Dattatreya was pleased very much for that and asked sumathi to ask for any boon. Sumathi told him that you call me mother (AMMA)! So for that make the name come true. Please born as my son. She requested. He granted to boon. Then Dattatreya is born as their son "Sri Pada". He is konown as swamybhu Sri Pada Sri Vallabha. He leads his devotees in right way and fulfill their desires. People belive that Dattatreya come here daily in any one of the form and takes Bhiksha. We can see padukas here at the scared tree that is Oudambara.
